The construction of large-scaled dredging and oil recovery vessel "Hakusan" was planned when the oil spill accident "Nakhodka case" took place in January, 1997 that gave extensive damage to all the coastal areas of Japan Sea, and building was completed in August, 2002. Hakusan is an unique vessel that has double functions of "Dredging" and "Oil recovery", the former is to dig soil and sand out inside the harbor to maintain sea route and the latter is the operation to recover large amount of oil flown out to the sea due to oil spill out accident and others. Our office takes charge of all the processes from the designing to the construction of Hakusan and continuously executed the technical support such as facility upgrading of Hakusan.

"Hakusan" can start oil recovery operation in Japan Sea area within 24 hours. Even in case of Hokkaido sea area, she can start operation within 2 days. Enhancing the security system against oil spill out accidents in Japan area is implemented by these operations in cooperation with other boats such as "Seiryu-maru" and "Kaisyo-maru".

No rudders are found on this vessel as entire propeller units themselves can rotate to change sailing direction of the vessel directly. Thanks to this unique system she can sail freely as to allow turning round on the spot, which characterize excellent maneuverability even in the narrow water area.


Oil recovery operation

Once large sized oil spill out accident is generated and floating oil washed to the coast lines, enormous damages might be given to marine resources and oceanic environment. Hakusan has her mission to rush immediately to accident site to onset recovery work before floating oil diffuses largely.
